According to a recent report published by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the Takaful industry in Malaysia experienced a compound average growth rate of 27 percent in terms of net contributions between 2005-2010 with family Takaful driving the growth at 28 percent for the same period to dominate more than 80 percent of the total Takaful market in 2010.

Speaking at the recent 6th Annual World Takaful Conference in Dubai, Shahril Azuar Jimin, Chief Executive Officer, Etiqa Takaful Berhad in his address noted that "the emphasis is on Family Takaful as this segment forms the new growth paradigm for Takaful business. The concept of Takaful needs to be visible so that people will see it as a way of life, either through creative campaigns and promotions or through a larger agency and distribution force. Takaful operators must build a confidence in the system, leading to greater product innovation, and increased customer-centricity and not just faith-based selling."
